A gang of 12 robbers broke into a farm in Raub, Pahang, on Monday, 15 July, stealing Musang King durians worth RM3,000 and injuring a farmer named Huang in the process.
During a press conference outside the Raub district police headquarters on 16 July, Huang’s brother recounted the incident. He said Huang visited his farm at 11 PM after being alerted to an attempted robbery. Upon arrival, Huang confronted the group of robbers. One of the robbers then retrieved a machete from their car and slashed Huang four times, injuring his head and arms.
Huang had received the tip-off from a network of local farmers who communicate via an online group chat. Another farmer surnamed Xiao, discovered Huang lying injured on the ground while patrolling his own farm. Xiao reported seeing the robbers flee the scene and immediately rushed Huang to Kuala Lipis Hospital for emergency treatment.
Save Musang King Alliance (SAMKA) chairman Wilson Chang called for swift police action to prevent further unrest among farmers. He reported that many farmers in Kampung Sungai Klau, Sungai Ruan, Sungai Chalit, and Kampung Tras have experienced similar thefts.
Chang described the robbers as a well-organized group of about 12 members who not only steal durians but also water pumps, lawnmowers, and agricultural tools. The robbers often strike in the afternoon, using motorcycles and pickup trucks to transport the stolen goods.
Huang’s brother has lodged a police report regarding the incident, hoping for immediate action to protect the livelihoods of local farmers.
