The Cabinet decided in today's meeting to form a special committee to tackle cyberbullying issues in the country, announced Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

Fahmi, who also serves as the spokesman for the unity government, stated that the committee will include the Communications Ministry, Home Ministry, Digital Ministry, and the Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform).

Additionally, the committee will be supported by a special team involving the Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), the Royal Malaysia Police, and the Attorney General’s Chambers.

"The Cabinet believes that stricter actions should be taken against social media platforms regarding cyberbullying issues. Platform operators cannot simply ignore the problem; they must be equally responsible for addressing it," Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil told Bernama after observing the full rehearsal of Sultan Ibrahim's Installation Ceremony as the 17th King of Malaysia at Istana Negara today.

He added, "The committee will thoroughly review the legal aspects and consider amendments to the laws, as well as any other necessary actions to tackle cyberbullying issues effectively."

"Cyberbullying involves new social media platforms, including those not yet developed, as well as AI technology. Therefore, we need to mobilize all our available expertise, including technical aspects, to address it effectively," he explained.
