There is no doubt that Yogi Babu is one of the busiest actors in Tamil cinema right now. He recently headlined Disney+ Hotstar’s Chutney Sambar and is now awaiting the release of Chimbudeven’s Boat on August 2. In a media interaction with Cineulagam, Yogi Babu spoke about a lot of things, including the biggest film in his lineup, Jailer 2. “I’ve worked with Nelson Dilipkumar in all of his films — Kolamaavu Kokila, Doctor, Beast, and Jailer. In all of these films, the comedy was a crucial aspect, and we had to make it work,” said the actor-comedian.
In Jailer, one of the biggest blockbusters of 2023, Yogi Babu played a quirky character who gets entangled in a bloodthirsty web of murder, heist, and redemption. He has played similar characters in all Nelson films and yet given unique performances that have made all of them memorable. “In Jailer 2, Nelson is writing something really special for my role. Once again, it will be an interesting take on the kind of comedy we do together,” pointed out Yogi Babu.
However, he was quick to become tight-lipped about the project and refused to reveal if Jailer 2 will be a sequel or a prequel. “The official announcement about the project will be made soon. I don’t want to add any more to the rumor mills,” said Yogi Babu, who has previously shared screen space with Rajinikanth in Darbar too.
Director Chimbudeven, who is known for making films with notable comedy actors like Vadivelu (Imsai Arasan 23 am Pulikesi), Santhanam, and Ganja Karuppu (Arai En 305-il Kadavul), is making a film with Yogi Babu for the first time. Apart from Yogi Babu, Boat also stars Gouri G Kishan, MS Bhaskar, Chinni Jayanth, Chaams, Madhumitha, and Sha Ra. With music by Ghibran and backed by Prabha Premkumar and C Kalaivani, Boat is set to clash at the box office with multiple films, including Mazhai Pidikkadha Manidhan, Nanban Oruvan Vandha Piragu, Pechi, and Jama.
