The third single from Venkat Prabhu’s GOAT, starring Vijay and Meenakshi Chaudhary, was released on Saturday. Composed by Yuvank Shankar Raja, the song has received polarising reactions on social media.

Tipped to be actor Vijay’s penultimate film before he plunges into active politics, The Greatest of All Time (GOAT), directed by Venkat Prabhu, is easily the most-hyped movie in Tamil cinema today. With just a few weeks left for release, the expectations have reached feverish heights. To take it up a notch, the makers released the third single from the Yuvan Shankar Raja-composed album. Titled, “Spark”, the song is written by Gangai Amaren, and sung by Yuvan himself alongside Vrusha Balu. The peppy dance number is also the first time the makers have decided to showcase the digitally de-aged Vijay, who is said to be playing dual roles in the sci-fi action film.

While the first two singles, “Whistle Podu” and “Chinna Chinna Kangal”, featured Vijay in his present-day look, “Spark” has sparked quite a conversation for the digitally de-aged Vijay. Netizens are divided among themselves about the efficacy of the de-aging work, and both the troll machinery and the hype train are working on overdrive to prove their respective points. If the ‘look’ Vijay wasn’t enough of a conversation starter, the ‘sound’ of “Spark” has created a stir too.

The GOAT album, which marks just the second collaboration between Vijay and Yuvan Shankar Raja after Puthiya Geethai (2003), is receiving mixed responses with some labeling it ‘gets better with every listen’ and others calling it the ‘worst album of Vijay in quite a while’. However, one thing that unites them all is the belief that this Venkat Prabhu directorial would be more background score-oriented, and from what they’ve heard in the teaser, GOAT is true ‘A Yuvan Shankar Raja Magical’.
