SHAH ALAM, Oct 8 —* The Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) has launched a faith rehabilitation program for 261 children of GISB Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISBH), starting Oct 1. The program uses a special module developed in collaboration with the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) and the Selangor Tahfiz Al-Quran Institutions Association (PITAS).
Mais Chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof said 20 teachers from Mais al-Riqab are currently teaching these children at welfare homes under the Social Welfare Department’s supervision. Alongside religious guidance, Mais is providing essential support, including prayer supplies through Yayasan Islam Darul Ehsan (YIDE).
Mais also operates rehabilitation centres such as Baitul Iman Aqidah Purification Centre and Baitul Ehsan Women’s Shelter, which offer shelter, spiritual rehabilitation, and counselling services. These facilities are part of a broader effort to assist former GISBH members through voluntary or court-ordered rehabilitation.
Long-term plans include providing further support via the Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) for social, educational, or economic development after rehabilitation. Mais continues to strengthen its efforts against deviant teachings with a special committee that includes Jais, the police, and other relevant agencies.
Additionally, Mais has 26 al-Riqab rehabilitation homes to assist GISBH members using the same rehabilitation module.
