KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 8* — The number of flood evacuees in Melaka and Johor saw a slight increase last night, while numbers in Perak, Kedah, and Selangor dropped.
In *Melaka*, evacuees rose to 23 from six families by 8 pm, up from 16 victims earlier in the afternoon. All were sheltered at the Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Tehel evacuation centre in Jasin.
In *Johor*, flood victims surged to 582 from 158 families by 8 pm, compared to 530 victims earlier. Affected areas include Kluang, Pontian, and Batu Pahat, with several temporary shelters still operational. The state’s rivers, including Sungai Sembrong and Sungai Kesang, remain at warning levels.
In *Perak*, the number of evacuees decreased to 298 people from 84 families by nightfall, down from 303 earlier. The largest decrease was in Taiping, where the number of evacuees dropped from 50 to 47.
In *Kedah*, the flood victim count also fell to 305 people from 89 families, down from 325 earlier in the evening. However, rivers like Sungai Bata and Sungai Padang Terap have reached dangerous levels.
In *Selangor*, the evacuee count decreased to 186 individuals from 39 families by 8 pm, compared to 248 earlier. Three shelters in Gombak and Kuala Selangor districts remain open to accommodate evacuees.
