Director Ranjith’s latest film Thangalan, starring Vikram, Parvathy Thiruvothu, and Malavika Mohanan, has sparked significant debate following its theatrical release on August 15. Produced by Studio Green Gnanavel Raja, the film, made on a high budget, was expected to perform well and has earned over 100 crores at the box office.

Despite its success, Thangalan has not yet been released on OTT platforms, leaving fans eagerly awaiting its digital debut. However, a new petition has been filed in the Madras High Court seeking a ban on the film's OTT release. The petitioner, Borkodi from Tiruvallur, claims that certain scenes in the film may cause religious tensions, as they are considered disrespectful to Buddhism and Vaishnavism. The petition argues that releasing the film on OTT could provoke conflict between these factions.

This legal challenge has raised questions, particularly as the film's OTT release remains pending.
