Vettaiyan Box Office Update: Day 2 Success for Rajinikanth’s Film*
Rajinikanth’s latest film, Vettaiyan, continues to make waves at the box office, maintaining strong momentum after its impressive opening. The film earned Rs 31.7 crore on its first day and an additional Rs 23.8 crore on day two, bringing its total domestic collection to Rs 55.5 crore, according to Sacnilk.
Despite mixed reviews, Vettaiyan has performed exceptionally well in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, grossing Rs 49.1 crore in the first two days. With the weekend approaching, projections suggest the total could exceed Rs 70 crore. The film achieved a Tamil occupancy of 58.53% overall, with Chennai reaching 72.5% across 1,042 shows.
Vettaiyan has surpassed the two-day collection of Indian 2, which earned Rs 43.8 crore, but still trails behind the year’s top Tamil hit, GOAT, which garnered around Rs 70 crore in its first two days. This success highlights Rajinikanth's enduring appeal in southern India, following his previous hit, Jailer, which made Rs 650 crore worldwide.
While the film has struggled to make an impact in Hindi-speaking regions, it opened strongly overseas, earning USD 3.3 million. It faces competition from Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video and Jigra, released on October 11.
Directed by TJ Gnanavel, Vettaiyan is a cop drama addressing issues like encounter killings and educational corruption, featuring a stellar cast that includes Amitabh Bachchan in his Tamil debut, alongside Manju Warrier, Kishore, Ritika Singh, and Fahadh Faasil, with Rana Daggubati as the antagonist.
