Govt Faces Challenges Investigating GISBH Due to Its Legitimacy, Says Religious Affairs Minister*

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 7 — The government is struggling to investigate the practices and teachings of Global Ikhwan Sdn Bhd (GISBH) because they appear lawful on paper, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Mohd Na’im Mokhtar. He explained that the process would be simpler if the group’s practices clearly conflicted with Islamic law.

In a written reply to Parliament, Mohd Na’im said that GISBH currently has around 10,500 members, with 9,000 in Malaysia. He outlined government efforts to manage the group, including a recovery plan for members, particularly for children under care centres, in collaboration with various agencies.

While acknowledging the complexities of investigating GISBH, Mohd Na’im assured that the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) is working within its jurisdiction, coordinating with other authorities to ensure the process runs smoothly.
