A man was shot by Singapore police at Pasir Ris Park on Thursday after allegedly attacking officers with a homemade flame-emitting device. The officers had responded to a report of a woman on a ledge at a bird-watching tower, but suspected the call was a trap. Upon finding the man in a nearby hut, he reportedly advanced on them with the device despite repeated warnings to stop. A 30-year-old officer then fired, and the man was arrested after falling, with a knife found nearby.
The man, who has a criminal history and an outstanding warrant, is now facing charges of attempted murder. He remains in stable condition in hospital. Police described the incident as a targeted attack on officers, and the man could face life imprisonment, caning, or up to 20 years in prison.
