Deputy Minister Calls for Stronger Road Safety as Accidents Hit 532,125 in 2024, 68% Fatalities Involving Motorcyclists*

MELAKA, Nov 17 — Malaysia recorded 532,125 road accidents from January to October 2024, with 5,364 fatalities, Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah reported. Of those, 68% involved motorcyclists and pillion riders.

Hasbi emphasized the need for stronger, continuous road safety efforts, particularly targeting motorcyclists. He highlighted the importance of the Safe Riding Clinic, part of the Road Safety Community Programme, which educates riders on traffic rules, safety awareness, and emergency responses.

The initiative was launched in conjunction with the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims (WDoR) 2024 at the Malaysian Road Transport Academy in Ayer Molek
