Malaysian Forklift Operator Injured in Container Collapse at Singapore's Pasir Panjang Terminal

A 37-year-old Malaysian forklift operator was hospitalized after a stack of shipping containers toppled onto his forklift at Singapore’s Pasir Panjang Terminal 3 early yesterday. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) responded to the incident at 6:55am, and the worker, who was conscious, was taken to the National University Hospital in stable condition.

The accident, which occurred around 6:40am, was confirmed by port operator PSA Singapore. Video footage shows the forklift moving a column of stacked containers before they collapse onto the operator’s cabin, causing him to fall.

The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) reported that the worker sustained head and body lacerations. Forklifts are typically used for handling empty containers, while cranes are used for loaded ones. MOM is investigating the incident and has ordered PSA to suspend all empty container-handling activities at the terminal, along with a safety review.
