Former Manchester United Star Nani Announces Retirement at 38

LONDON — Nani, the former Portugal and Manchester United winger, announced his retirement on Sunday at the age of 38.

Nani, who joined Manchester United in 2007, made 230 appearances and scored 41 goals for the club. He won the Champions League in his debut season and added four Premier League titles and two League Cups over his eight years at Old Trafford.

"I have decided to finish my career as a professional player," Nani wrote on social media. "It's been an amazing ride, and I want to thank everyone who supported me through this incredible journey. Now, it's time to turn a new leaf and focus on new goals."

Nani, who had been playing for Estrela Amadora in the Portuguese top flight this season, played his final match against his former club Sporting last month. Throughout his career, he also featured for Valencia, Lazio, Orlando City, Venezia, Melbourne Victory, and Adana Demirspor.

He earned 112 caps for Portugal, scoring 24 goals and winning the 2016 European Championship.
