Kelantan bounces back from flooding; additional evacuees head back home in Terengganu

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 12 — Kelantan completely bounced back from the floods last night, while in Terengganu, the count of evacuees kept decreasing. 

In KELANTAN, Gua Musang Social Welfare officer Bun Tham Eh Gin stated that the final relief centre (PPS) at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Limau Kasturi 1, which accommodated 41 individuals, was shut down at 5 pm, signifying that the state has completely recovered from the recent second wave of floods that hit on Monday.

“The evacuees were permitted to go back to their residences at approximately 5 pm today after  the floodwaters in their areas subsided,” he stated when reached.

In TERENGGANU, the flood condition has shown improvement, with the number of evacuees dropping to 3,778 from 869 families housed in 12 PPS, down from 4,751 recorded this evening.

The JPBN Secretariat of the Terengganu State Disaster Management Committee reported that 3,541 evacuees from 812 families are currently housed in eight PPS in the Kemaman district. In contrast, 237 individuals from 57 families in the Dungun district were accommodated in four PPS that began functioning yesterday.

He stated in Tangkak that 54 individuals from 12 households are seeking refuge at SK Simpang Lima Darat, while two PPS in Segamat, known as Balai Raya Kampung Batu Badak and Dewan Komuniti Kampung Tasek, are accommodating 40 individuals from 12 families and 45 respectively.
