KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 17 — A total of 95,298 summonses were issued nationwide for red light violations from January to November this year, with car drivers accounting for the highest number—44,889 tickets—followed by motorcyclists (39,468), lorry drivers (3,937), and other vehicles (7,004).
Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri emphasized the seriousness of the offence, warning that running red lights can lead to fatal accidents. He announced stricter enforcement measures, including enhanced monitoring and the use of CCTV cameras at key intersections.
JSPT is collaborating with local authorities to take action against violators under Section 79 (2) of the Road Transport Act 1987. In light of ASEAN's 2025 Chairmanship, Mohd Yusri urged all road users to act responsibly, adhere to traffic rules, and contribute to improving road safety.
He called on drivers to stay focused and avoid rushing through red lights, stressing that road safety is a shared responsibility.
