Madrid — Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal is expected to miss 3-4 weeks after suffering a right ankle injury during Sunday’s 1-0 La Liga defeat to Leganes.

Tests confirmed a grade 1 ligament injury, and Yamal will be sidelined for Barcelona’s final match of the year against Atletico Madrid on Saturday. He is also set to miss the Copa del Rey tie against Barbastro on January 4 and the Spanish Super Cup in Jeddah.

Despite the injury, the 17-year-old continued playing until he was substituted in the 75th minute. Barcelona, still top of La Liga, are on a tough run with only one win in their last six matches, allowing Atletico to level on points with one game fewer. Real Madrid trails by a point with a game in hand
