Kuala Lumpur — The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has assured there will be no overlap between interim coach Pau Marti Vicente and newly appointed head coach Peter Cklamovski during the 2024 ASEAN Championship. FAM Deputy President Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mahadi confirmed that Pau Marti will remain in charge for the duration of the tournament, which ends on January 5, 2025, before Cklamovski officially takes over.
Mohd Yusoff explained that Pau Marti's role is limited to the ASEAN Championship, and once the tournament concludes, he will step aside for Cklamovski, who will begin his tenure on January 1, 2025. Cklamovski, previously with Japan’s FC Tokyo, will have the freedom to select his coaching staff, including a local assistant coach, with FAM's approval.
FAM is hopeful that Cklamovski will have the time and support needed to lead Harimau Malaya towards their goals of qualifying for the 2027 Asian Cup and reaching the top 100 in the world rankings.
In a separate development, FAM announced a new collaboration with Konami eFootball, aiming to bridge traditional football and the digital world. This partnership will feature the Harimau Malaya squad in all eFootball games, offering fans the chance to play as their national team in the virtual arena
