Two Thai Nationals Arrested for Firing Shots Near Malaysia-Thailand Border

KUALA LUMPUR — Two Thai nationals, aged 21 and 28, were arrested by Thai authorities in Songkhla last Friday after firing shots near a security checkpoint along the Malaysia-Thailand border in Padang Besar, Perlis.

The incident occurred on December 12 when two General Operations Force personnel, on patrol for Ops Taring Wawasan Kedah and Perlis, heard gunshots from the Thai side of the border at 10:28 am. CCTV footage showed the suspects, riding a grey scooter with Thai plates, stopping to fire approximately 10 shots at the Malaysian border before collecting the spent cartridges and leaving.

The Malaysian police shared the footage with Thai authorities, who arrested the suspects the next day. Investigations revealed the men had borrowed the firearm from a friend to test it. Thai police are now searching for the weapon's owner.

The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) continues to strengthen border security to ensure the safety of officers and prevent further threats. A video of the incident later went viral on social media.
