South Korean President Yoon Given Ultimatum: Appear for Questioning by Saturday or Face Arrest

SEOUL  — South Korean prosecutors have ordered impeached President Yoon Suk-yeol to appear by this weekend for questioning over his failed martial law attempt or risk arrest. Yoon, suspended from office on Saturday, is under investigation for alleged insurrection and abuse of power, with possible life imprisonment or even the death penalty if convicted.

Prosecutors issued a warning on Tuesday, giving Yoon a deadline of Saturday to respond or face a potential arrest warrant. The investigation team also raided Yoon’s security service to obtain phone records.

The suspended president’s office had previously rejected a summons for questioning on Wednesday, claiming the notice was “undelivered.”

Meanwhile, South Korea's Constitutional Court has begun proceedings to decide whether Yoon’s impeachment will stand. If upheld, new elections must be held within two months. Protests continue to shake the country, with demonstrations both for and against Yoon’s removal.
