Harimau Malaya’s Fate Rides on Crucial Clash with Singapore After Thailand’s Comeback Victory

KUALA LUMPUR — Harimau Malaya’s hopes of reaching the semi-finals of the 2024 ASEAN Cup hinge on a must-win match against Singapore this Friday at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil.

This follows Thailand’s dramatic 4-2 comeback victory over Singapore tonight, which saw the War Elephants top Group A with a perfect 9 points. Singapore remain second with 6 points, while Malaysia, tied with Cambodia in third, are in a race to secure a place in the semi-finals.

A win for Malaysia against Singapore would secure 7 points, guaranteeing them the runners-up spot in Group A. Thailand, expected to comfortably beat Cambodia in their final group match, will top the group with 12 points, advancing to the semis.

In tonight’s match, Singapore led 2-0 with goals from Muhammad Shawal Anuar and Faris Ramli. However, Thailand fought back, with goals from Patrik Gustavsson, Suphanat Mueanta, Peeradon Chamratsamee, and Teerasak Poeiphimai securing the 4-2 victory.
