Minbappe Could End Malaysia’s Esports Gold Medal Drought at 2025 SEA Games, Says MESF
KUALA LUMPUR — FIFAe World Cup 2024 champion Ahmad Muhaimin Razak, better known as Minbappe, has been identified as a top gold medal prospect for Malaysia at the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand. The 19-year-old, who made history by winning the FIFAe World Cup’s eFootball Mobile tournament in December, is seen as a key contender to break Malaysia’s esports gold medal drought, which has lasted since 2019.
Malaysia Esports Federation (MESF) president Muhammad Naim Al-Amin highlighted that eFootball is one of six esports to be featured at the 2025 SEA Games, and Minbappe’s recent victory strengthens his potential to secure Malaysia's first gold in esports at the event.
Minbappe, who represented FAM eRimau, made headlines by defeating Morocco 2-0 and earning RM80,000 in prize money. Meanwhile, MESF is also pushing to host the Asian qualifiers for the Esports World Cup next year, awaiting approval from the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
