Penang MACC Arrests Enforcement Officer for Allegedly Soliciting RM80,000 Bribe
GEORGE TOWN — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Penang has arrested a 40-something enforcement officer for allegedly demanding an RM80,000 bribe to secure the release of a woman's husband detained under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act (Sosma 2012).
The suspect reportedly contacted the woman on November 30, claiming he could help free her husband in exchange for the bribe. The woman made an initial payment of RM3,000 via e-wallet, followed by another RM1,000 in cash after the officer demanded more money during a meeting at a petrol station on Monday.
Penang MACC director Datuk Mohd Fuad Bee Basrah confirmed the arrest and said the case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009. The suspect will be brought to court for a remand application tomorrow.
