TikToker Rayyan Wong Arrested for Alleged Insults Against Royalty and PM Over Halal Meal Controversy
PETALING JAYA — Police have arrested 22-year-old TikTok user Rayyan Wong (@ryanwong_5845) for allegedly insulting the royal institution and the Prime Minister in a social media post.
According to Utusan Malaysia, the arrest followed a report from a Cyberjaya resident, accusing Wong of making offensive remarks that belittled the royal family and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The comments were seen as provocative, potentially inciting public unrest.
Wong, who was arrested at his Johor home, had questioned the halal status of a restaurant where the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim, Johor’s Regent Tunku Mahkota Ismail, and the Prime Minister dined. He had implied that the restaurant lacked a halal certificate, which was later proven incorrect.
Wong has since apologized, admitting to the mistake and clarifying that the restaurant was halal-certified. He is now under investigation for sedition and violating the Communications and Multimedia Act.
