Exploring Two Rare Tamil Film Sequels: Vijay in 'Once More' and Bhagyaraj's 'Emergency Police 100'"

Tamil cinema has seen a few sequels, but two films stand out for continuing stories from many years ago.

Once More (1997): Directed by SA Chandrasekhar, this film is a sequel to the 1963 classic Iruvar Ullam. It stars Vijay, Sivaji Ganesan, and Saroja Devi, with Vijay playing a son who helps solve his adoptive father’s problems. The story revolves around the reunion of Sivaji and Saroja Devi's characters from the original film. Notably, this was the first film where Vijay and Simran starred together, marking the start of their on-screen pairing.

Emergency Police 100 (1990): Directed by Bhagyaraj, this film serves as a sequel to Anna Nee En Deivam (1976), which was abandoned halfway due to MGR’s political duties. Bhagyaraj's Emergency Police 100 picked up the story years later, starring Gauthami and Silk Smitha, and was released after MGR's death.

Both films uniquely carry forward the legacy of older Tamil classics, bridging generations of cinema.
