"Sibuan Island Near Semporna Closed After WWII Bomb Found"
KOTA KINABALU — Sibuan Island, located near Semporna and part of the Tun Sakaran Marine Park, has been temporarily closed following the discovery of a suspected World War II bomb. The closure, announced by Sabah Parks on Facebook, began at 12:30pm today and will remain in effect until authorities confirm the area is safe.
The bomb was found during a routine underwater cleanup near the shore, exposed by sand erosion. Authorities were alerted, and police advised a closure until the device can be safely removed.
Sibuan Island is known for its crystal-clear waters and sandy beaches, making it a popular tourist spot. A tragic incident in the 1970s, where a similar bomb detonated near Bohey Dulang Island, serves as a grim reminder of the dangers posed by unexploded ordnance.
