KOTA KINABALU — The much-awaited ferry service between Labuan and Kota Kinabalu, set to begin on December 15, has been suspended due to unprepared facilities at Jesselton Ferry Terminal and a lack of readiness by Sabah authorities. This delay has sparked criticism from Labuan NGOs.

In response to the ongoing blame game, Ts. Daniel Doughty, chairman of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Malaysia (CILTM) Sabah, urged for a focus on solutions rather than accusations. Doughty, also a Sabah Logistics Council board member, called for constructive dialogue to resolve the issue and ensure the ferry service’s successful launch.

Doughty stressed the importance of improved connectivity between Labuan and Sabah for regional growth and offered CILTM’s expertise to help facilitate the project. He also encouraged NGOs in Labuan to investigate the situation thoroughly, suggesting that many current criticisms may be unfounded.

The CILTM chairman emphasized that collaboration, not division, is key to overcoming obstacles and making the ferry service a reality, which will enhance economic opportunities and tourism for both regions.
