ASEAN Travelers to Use QR Code Departure System at KLIA, Set to Expand Nationwide

SEPANG — Starting next year, travelers from ASEAN countries will be able to use the new Immigration QR code clearance system for departure at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail announced today.

The system, aimed at streamlining travel for the influx of visitors expected during Visit Malaysia 2026, will also be extended to other major international airports across the country. ASEAN delegates will be prioritized, with the QR code system eventually expanding to Penang, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, and Langkawi.

Saifuddin added that the initiative is part of Malaysia's effort to offer seamless travel for ASEAN delegates, as the country hosts about 400 meetings this year as ASEAN Chair. The system's rollout will begin with "low-risk" countries, including Singapore and Thailand, with China and India following for non-ASEAN travelers.
