PM Anwar Assures Penang Residents, Vows to Protect ‘Sentimental’ Sg Nibong Pesta Site Amid LRT Project

GEORGE TOWN  — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has assured Penang residents that their concerns over the potential loss of part of the Sungai Nibong pesta site for the Mutiara Line LRT depot are being addressed. Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for the LRT project, Anwar acknowledged the sentimental value the site holds for locals, alongside their desire for the new transportation system.

He emphasized that Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow will engage with all stakeholders to explore possible adjustments to the project. “Penangites are attached to both their traditions and progress, and while change is needed, we will consider their concerns and discuss viable solutions,” Anwar said.

The ceremony was also attended by Transport Minister Anthony Loke, Human Resources Minister Steven Sim, and Chief Minister Chow.
