IPOH: A woman claimed that her six-year-old son sustained injuries, including cuts and bruises, after being abused by a preschool teacher at a school here.
Aiza Salzul Hanira Zulkapli, 42, said the incident came to light in September last year when she noticed wounds and redness on her son's left ear.
She said the incident recurred when her son complained of being pinched on his right rib, bruises on his waist, and being hit on the head.
"At first, I thought other children were responsible, so I didn't pay much attention to it until my son told me he was caned and hit on the head daily by the same teacher.
"Additionally, my son said he was forced to run alone around the field, had pins placed on his pocket, was slapped on the face, and was denied food and drinks.
"The teacher claimed to do this because my son was said to be unable to spell and did not complete his homework.
"For me, this excuse is illogical because it's impossible that out of all the students, only my son failed to complete his homework to the point of being punished like that," she said at a press conference today.
She said the most recent abuse her son experienced was on Dec 13, last year when he was caned on both palms, causing bruises and swelling.
She added that following the incident, her son suffered pain that kept him from sleeping at night, and a doctor's examination revealed soft tissue injuries on his palms.
"From the beginning, I had lodged a complaint against the teacher through the Public Complaints Management System (SISPA), but the feedback received stated there was no physical contact based on interviews with an assistant and an Islamic education teacher at the preschool.
"I have also made three police reports for further investigation because the teacher's actions not only caused physical injuries but also left my son traumatised, to the point of being diagnosed by a psychiatrist with 'acute stress disorder," she said.
Meanwhile, district police chief Assistant Commissioner Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said police confirmed receiving a police report from the victim's mother.
"The complainant has lodged three police reports regarding the incident of her child being injured by the school teacher, and these reports are connected.
"The investigation papers have been referred to the Perak State Prosecutor for further action and instructions.
"Police urge the public not to take actions that violate the law and to refrain from making any speculations about this incident to avoid confusion and public unrest," he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for the offense of voluntarily causing hurt.
