AGC Seeks Gag Order on Najib’s House Arrest Judicial Review Case

KUALA LUMPUR — The Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) has filed a motion for a gag order to prevent any public discussion of Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s judicial review over claims of an additional document that could allow him to serve the remainder of his six-year prison term under house arrest.

The motion was filed online at 7:45 pm, with AGC Civil Division deputy chief Shamsul Bolhassan citing the case’s sensitive nature.

On January 6, the Court of Appeal ruled 2-1 to remand the case to the High Court after Najib’s successful appeal against the High Court’s dismissal of his judicial review application. Najib, 71, is seeking a mandamus order to compel authorities to confirm the existence of the alleged document, dated January 29, 2024.

He has named several key respondents, including the Minister of Home Affairs, the Attorney General, and the Pardons Board. If the document is found, Najib is asking for an order to transfer him from Kajang Prison to house arrest in Kuala Lumpur.
