UM Pledges Full Cooperation in Investigation of KK Mart Vandalism After ‘Ham Sandwich’ Controversy"
KUALA LUMPUR — Universiti Malaya (UM) has vowed to assist authorities in investigating the vandalism of a KK Mart outlet on its campus following concerns raised by a student group about safety.
The university confirmed it had filed a police report regarding the incident, which it described as serious. "UM is committed to fully cooperating with the authorities and urges strict action against those responsible to prevent future occurrences," the university stated.
The vandalism, which occurred at KK Mart in Kompleks Perdana Siswa (KPS), involved red paint being splashed on the premises. The attack followed controversy surrounding the sale of a "ham and cheese sandwich" at KK Mart, though no direct link has been established.
The Umany student group, led by president Lim Jing Jet, condemned the attack, questioning the security level on campus. The sandwich controversy arose after KK Mart outlets, including the one targeted, sold sandwiches supplied by Shake and Bake Café, which falsely carried a halal logo despite lacking certification.
