Mahesh Babu Missed Out on Playing Hero in Vinnaithaandi Varuvaya—A Decision That Shaped Simbu’s Career

Vinnaithaandi Varuvaya, the 2010 romantic masterpiece directed by Gautham Menon, marked a pivotal moment in Simbu's career. The film, starring Simbu as Karthik and Trisha as Jessie, became a beloved classic, celebrated for its intense chemistry between the leads and its timeless appeal.

However, Simbu wasn’t Gautham Menon’s first choice for the role. Initially, Menon approached Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu, but the actor, focused on mass films at the time, declined the offer, not wanting to do a romantic film. As a result, Simbu landed the role, which turned out to be a career-defining moment.

The film not only gave Simbu a major boost but also marked the debut of actress Samantha and turned VTV Ganesh from a cinematographer into a recognized actor. Ironically, Ganesh was originally supposed to be replaced by comedian Vivek, but due to scheduling issues, he played the role of Simbu’s mentor in the film.

Looking back, fans agree that Mahesh Babu’s absence was a blessing in disguise, as Simbu’s portrayal of Karthik became inseparable from the film’s success and enduring popularity.
