Elderly Couple Killed in Head-On Collision with Lorry in Lawas

MIRI — An elderly couple was killed in a head-on crash between their car and a lorry in Lawas on Tuesday afternoon. The accident occurred around 1:10 pm on Trusan Road near Kampung Berayong, when their car collided with a cargo truck carrying 10 tonnes of stone.

Firefighters used rescue tools to extract the victims, who were both pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. The bodies were handed over to police. The victims, identified as driver Peranchis Nane, 67, and Raminah Tadam, 69, were traveling from Long Tengoa village.

The 35-year-old lorry driver, who suffered minor injuries after his vehicle overturned into a drain, was taken to the hospital by passers-by. Lawas police are investigating the cause of the accident.
