Flash Floods Hit Miri After Heavy Rain, Disrupting Homes and Airport

MIRI — A heavy downpour in Miri this afternoon caused flash floods in several areas, with roads, homes, and even Miri Airport affected. Flood-prone areas such as Jalan Miri-Pujut and Jalan Cahaya saw rapid water buildup, leaving residents like Doreen Chia anxious about rising water levels threatening their properties.

A video shared on Facebook showed water overflowing from the roof at Miri Airport, following a water leakage incident caused by the rain and strong winds. Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin confirmed that Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) has dispatched contractors to inspect and address the issue. He also called for a thorough review of the airport's 20-year-old infrastructure to prevent future disruptions.

In nearby residential areas, flash floods worsened, with roads blocked by fallen trees and strong water flows from storm drains. Authorities are urged to take immediate action to prevent further damage.
