Missing Melaka Fishermen Found Safe in Dumai, Indonesia
KUALA LUMPUR — Two fishermen from Padang Temu Jetty in Melaka, who went missing on January 15 after their boat was swept away by bad weather off Pulau Undan, have been found safe in Dumai, Indonesia, about 70 to 80 km across the Strait of Malacca.
Captain Mohd Khairi Abd Aziz, Director of Melaka and Negeri Sembilan Maritime, confirmed that Muarep Sakem, 63, and Rosenizam Maharam, 55, were rescued by Indonesian fishermen after their boat suffered engine failure.
"We are grateful they were found safe and without serious injuries," he said. The fishermen are currently in Dumai, with efforts underway to arrange their return through the Malaysian Consulate.
The two were reported missing on January 17, and local authorities are working with the Immigration Department to assist with their repatriation.
