Anwar: Malaysia Must Reform Laws to Embrace Global Tech Advancements

DAVOS — Malaysia must overhaul outdated legislation to tackle the challenges posed by rapid technological advancements, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Summit 2025.

In a media briefing on "Unlocking ASEAN’s Digital Future," Anwar emphasized the need for reforms to foster greater international collaboration. "We must adapt global legislative trends to ensure effective policy implementation," he said, noting Malaysia's parliamentary majority will help push these reforms forward.

Anwar, also the Finance Minister, highlighted that ASEAN leaders must craft policies that address the fast pace of technological change. He called for a collaborative approach, stressing the importance of humility and inclusivity in the process. This collaboration, he said, should involve not just governments but also companies and universities, as part of building a robust ecosystem for growth.
