‘Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’ Tops U.S. Video Game Sales in 2024
The latest Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 emerged as the top-selling game in the U.S. in 2024, according to figures released by research firm Circana. The overall video game market generated $58.7 billion last year, a slight 1.1% dip from the previous year.
Black Ops 6, developed by Activision and available through Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass from launch, takes players through an alternate Cold War timeline. Last year’s top seller was Hogwarts Legacy, set in the Harry Potter universe.
In the sports category, College Football 25 from Electronic Arts became the best-selling sports game in U.S. history. Meanwhile, sales of games and digital content grew by 2%, though hardware sales dropped 25%, with little new console hardware in the market.
The PlayStation 5, which saw a Pro version release in 2024, remained the top-selling console, followed by the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo also teased the highly anticipated Switch 2 arriving later this year.
Mobile gaming saw a significant rise, with U.S. spending reaching nearly $25.5 billion, up 9% year-on-year.
