Foreign Worker Killed by Falling Zinc Roof at Penang Construction Site

A 28-year-old foreign worker died after a zinc roof, being moved by crane at a construction site in Simpang Ampat, Penang, fell on him. The roof was being transferred from a lorry when the rope securing it to the crane’s hook snapped. The worker, employed by a sub-contractor for roof installation, was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead the same day.

The Penang Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) issued a stop-work order at the site and instructed the employer to conduct an internal investigation. DOSH will follow up with its own investigation and take legal action if any safety violations are found.
