Bodyguard Pleads Not Guilty to Robbery Charge for Pointing Gun at Employees in Cheras Mall
KUALA LUMPUR — A 45-year-old bodyguard, Saifulzaman Hamzah, pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court today to charges of pointing a pistol at two jewellery store employees during a robbery at a Cheras shopping mall on January 4.
Saifulzaman allegedly brandished the gun in a way that caused fear of death or injury to the two women, aged 21 and 18. The charge, under Section 4 of the Firearms Act (Increased Penalties) 1971, carries a life sentence and a minimum of six strokes of the cane.
Deputy public prosecutor Joshua Tee Yee Khuan argued that bail should not be granted as the offence is non-bailable. However, the defence lawyer, Mohd Hisham Md Nen, requested bail citing the accused's family responsibilities, including an unemployed wife, three children, and elderly parents.
Judge Siti Shakirah Mohtarudin denied bail and set the next hearing for February 24.
