KUALA LUMPUR — The Ministry of Health (MOH) has ordered an immediate ban on the sale of ‘Apple S’ candy after it was found to contain the prohibited weight-loss drug sibutramine, which poses serious health risks.
Sibutramine, an appetite suppressant, is no longer approved by MOH due to its dangerous side effects, including heart issues and mild symptoms like dry mouth, nausea, and insomnia.
The candy was also non-compliant with Food Regulations 1985, missing key labeling requirements and manufacturer details.
MOH has instructed all sellers, including online platforms, to halt sales and ads of the product, and advised consumers to stop using it and consult healthcare professionals if they experience any side effects.
For concerns, the public can contact local health offices or visit the Food Safety and Quality Division’s Facebook page.
