Fugitive BMW Driver Fined RM5,500 for Hit-and-Run in Johor"

JOHOR BARU — A 27-year-old man, Christopher Lim Ka Hen, was fined RM5,500 by the Magistrate’s Court today for careless driving that caused an accident and injured another driver before fleeing the scene last week.

Lim, a customer service executive, pleaded guilty to the charge of reckless driving at a traffic light intersection in Johor on January 17. If he fails to pay the fine, he will serve a six-month prison sentence.

The accident occurred when Lim's BMW collided with a Perodua Aruz, which had the right of way. The driver of the MPV, a 26-year-old man, suffered a broken hand, while Lim fled the scene. Lim's driving license was also endorsed with the conviction details.

Traffic authorities had been searching for Lim after the incident, and the court imposed the fine under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
