SEOUL — North Korea test-fired sea-to-surface strategic cruise missiles yesterday, with state media reporting the missiles precisely hit their targets. Kim Jong Un supervised the test, emphasizing the strengthening of the country's war deterrence capabilities.

The missiles traveled along elliptical and figure-eight orbits, covering 1,500 km (930 miles), with no reported impact on neighboring nations' security. The location of the test was not disclosed.

This marks Pyongyang's first missile test since U.S. President Donald Trump's return to the White House. In response, North Korea criticized recent joint military drills between the U.S. and South Korea, warning of tougher counteractions if the sovereignty of North Korea is disregarded.

Relations between North and South Korea remain tense, exacerbated by Pyongyang’s missile tests, which breach UN sanctions. North Korea also condemned U.S. involvement in military exercises, viewing them as preparations for invasion.

Last year, North Korea launched a powerful ICBM and multiple short-range missiles. Additionally, reports indicate North Korean troops have been sent to support Russia’s efforts in Ukraine, though both nations have not confirmed this.
