KUALA LUMPUR — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has remained unwavering in his support for judicial independence, despite being a victim of politically influenced judicial decisions in the past, said Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim, his political secretary.

In a post on X, Kamil criticized individuals misrepresenting Chief Justice (CJ) Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat’s remarks during the 2025 Opening of the Legal Year (OLY). He stressed that the CJ’s constructive advice was well-received by the government and highlighted Malaysia’s progress, notably moving up 23 positions in the Rule of Law index under the current administration.

Kamil dismissed claims by nine former Malaysian Bar presidents that the Madani Government is weaker in upholding judicial independence. He pointed out the turbulent periods under past administrations, including constitutional crises and threats to the judiciary, asking why those issues were ignored.

He condemned the misleading statements as an attempt to tarnish the Madani Government’s reputation, urging legal practitioners to respect the law and avoid baseless allegations.
