TNB to Assist Landlords Hit with RM8.5M Debt from Illegal Bitcoin Mining
KUALA LUMPUR — Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has pledged to work with Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung to find a solution for landlords facing RM8.5 million in unpaid bills due to tenants involved in illegal Bitcoin mining.
TNB reminded property owners to submit a Change of Tenancy (COT) when new tenants move in to avoid future disputes or liabilities related to electricity accounts.
The affected landlords, including 45 homeowners and business operators, were shocked by the massive debt, which they only discovered after receiving TNB notices. Lee has called for a task force to investigate the issue, stressing shared accountability between property owners, tenants, and electricity providers.
