KUALA LUMPUR:

Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun's victory at the Indonesia Masters has lifted their world ranking to a career-best No. 12.

The latest rankings, released by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) yesterday, show the pair moving up one spot with 65,490 points, overtaking England's Ben Lane-Sean Vardy (63,468).

Wei Chong-Kai Wun made history on Sunday by becoming the first Malaysian men's doubles pair to win the Indonesia Masters (Super 500), stunning the home crowd at the Istora Senayan Stadium with a commanding 21-11, 21-19 victory over home favourites Fajar Alfian-Rian Ardianto in just 38 minutes.

The duo remain Malaysia's third-highest-ranked men's doubles pair behind Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik (No. 5) and Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani (No. 2).

Incoming men's doubles head coach Herry Iman Pierngadi, who begins his role at the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) on Saturday, praised Wei Chong-Kai Wun's mental toughness for excelling in a hostile environment.

"They were impressive, especially in front of such a vocal home crowd," said Herry on Monday.

"They possess excellent offensive and defensive qualities, which will serve them well moving forward."
