KUALA LUMPUR: Who is the Dutch-born star set to don Harimau Malaya colours?

Harimau Malaya Chief Executive Officer Rob Friend has confirmed that one of the four naturalised players with Malaysian ancestry from the Netherlands is close to obtaining Malaysian citizenship.

Based on checks, at least three players from the Netherlands have been linked with a move to represent Malaysia.

Among them are Ferdy Druijf, Dylan Van Wageningen and Sem Scheperman.

Druijf, a prolific striker for PEC Zwolle on loan from Rapid Vienna, plies his trade in the Eredivisie, the Netherlands' top division.

He has also played for Dutch side AZ Alkmaar.

The 26-year-old, said to have Malaysian lineage through his mother, has netted 112 goals in 226 appearances throughout his career, according to statistics from Transfermarkt.

Another potential recruit is Scheperman, a 23-year-old midfielder currently playing for Heracles Almelo.

Wageningen, a defender for Sparta Rotterdam, is also believed to be of Malaysian descent through his grandfather.

However, the true identity of the Dutch-born star mentioned by Friend remains a mystery, with the FA of Malaysia (FAM) expected to make an official announcement soon.
