French Teen Mathis Amougou Joins Chelsea on Eight-Year Deal for €15 Million

French midfielder Mathis Amougou, 19, has signed with Chelsea from Saint-Etienne on an eight-year contract worth €15 million (US$15.5 million). The club confirmed Amougou will begin training soon.

“I’m very happy to sign for such a big club like Chelsea,” said Amougou, praising the club’s strong youth development process.

Amougou debuted for Saint-Etienne last season, helping the team gain promotion to Ligue 1. This season, he became a regular starter, making 17 Ligue 1 appearances. Despite five months left on his contract, Amougou did not extend terms with the struggling club.

Having represented France at youth level, Amougou earned the Bronze Ball at the 2023 Under-17 World Cup and was later called up to the Under-20 squad. Chelsea, currently fourth in the Premier League, are 13 points behind leaders Liverpool.
