NEW YORK — Protests erupted in New York City after the National Park Service removed references to transgender and queer people from the Stonewall monument website. The site, which honors the 1969 Stonewall riots that sparked the modern LGBTQ rights movement, had previously included the full "LGBTQ" acronym, but now only features "LGB," erasing transgender and queer identities.

The move follows a broader push by President Donald Trump to redefine gender strictly as male and female, leading to attacks on transgender rights. Protesters carried signs like "Silence = death" and "There’s no Stonewall without the T" in response.

Governor Kathy Hochul condemned the decision, emphasizing that transgender people are integral to the fight for LGBTQ+ rights and pledging New York’s support for their recognition.
