KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysia, as this year's ASEAN Chair, will prioritize tackling job scam syndicates operating across Southeast Asia, said Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Mohamad Alamin. The issue was recently discussed at the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Retreat in Langkawi, with a focus on strengthening cooperation among ASEAN nations through the ASEAN Police Organisation (AseanAPOL).
Mohamad emphasized that combating job scams will remain a key agenda throughout Malaysia's chairmanship, following previous discussions in Labuan Bajo, Indonesia, and Vientiane, Laos. He highlighted recent cooperation, such as Myanmar's handover of 320 foreign nationals involved in scam syndicates to Thailand for identification and repatriation.
The ongoing efforts aim to identify victims, determine their involvement, and ensure safe return to their home countries.
