Fadhlina: MoE Pushes to Make Secondary Schooling Mandatory with Education Act Amendment in Dewan Rakyat

HULU LANGAT — The Ministry of Education (MOE) aims to table a Bill in the current Dewan Rakyat session to amend the Education Act 1996, making secondary education compulsory. Minister Fadhlina Sidek shared that the amendment is still in the engagement phase, with sessions ongoing to gather support from all parties.

Fadhlina expressed hope that the Bill will be presented this session, or at the latest, in the next parliamentary session. She mentioned that the proposal has already been reviewed by the Attorney-General’s Chambers.

During her visit to Sekolah Kebangsaan Taman Pelangi, she also announced that 4.93 million students will begin the 2025/2026 school year, including 2.83 million in primary school and 2.09 million in secondary school.
